This tiny device, the size of a small paperclip, is implanted in to a blood vessel next to the brain and can read electrical signals from the motor cortex, the brain’s control centre. These signals can then be transmitted to an exoskeleton or wheelchair to give paraplegic patients greater mobility. Users will need to learn how to communicate with their machinery, but over time, it is thought it will become second nature, like driving or playing the piano. The first human trials are slated for 2017 in Melbourne, Australia.

A new approach of the MIT opens up new opportunities for 3D-printing: by combining liquid and solid materials at the same time it is now possible to 3D-print and manufacture hydraulic items. Even a robot with bellows was printed in one step.

Microlink have unveiled a new breakthrough via their cognitive services.
Saqib Shaikh is a software engineer for Microsoft and has been blind since he was 7 years old. In conjunction with Microsoft’s cognitive technologies, he is developing the “Seeing AI”. An app that can work on a phone and SMART glasses. The app sees the world around him and translates what is viewable with sound.
GVS has developed a technology which lets you feel movements due to stimulation of the inner ear. This could also be used to reduce motion sickness, because with this technology it is possible to synchronize what you see & what you feel.

The FingerIO app enables users to use their smartphone or -watch with gestures. Nothing needed but your fingers and any kind of suface – even midair it is supposed to be working. By using the devices microphone and speaker it tracks and processes inaudibal sound signals and their echoes – like a sonar system.

Bandai Namco will open up a virtual-reality “experience center” from April 15 to mid-October , featuring six VR demos coupled with real-life additions to the rooms to help immerse visitors in each simulation.
