This new device teleports lemonade

Virtual lemonade sends colour and taste to a glass of water.
A system of sensors and electrodes can digitally transmit the basic colour and sourness of a glass of lemonade to a tumbler of water, making it look and taste like a different drink. The idea is to let people share sensory experiences over the internet.

This shows a very nice approach to reproduce things over long distance by only sending the information of an object. It also could be adapted by many other replication technologies (i.E. 3D printing).

The first Mini Robotic Printer

This wireless printer from the Israeli startup ZUtALabs fits in your pocket.
It has a rechargeable battery and an on/off switch. It connects directly to smartphones and to PCs, and allows the user to print on any size piece of paper. Equipped with a unique mechanical drive system, WiFi connectivity for connecting to mobile devices and a battery that provides a full hour of printing, this little printer is not limited to standard paper sizes.

Goodyear just unveiled new spherical tires prove moving sideways

Goodyear just DEVELOPED The Goodyear Eagle-360 CONCEPT TIRES specifically for autonomous cars this week at the 86th Geneva International Motor show. THE spherical tire allows cars to drive in any direction.

The unique shape of the Goodyear Eagle-360 could contribute to safety and maneuverability to match the demands of autonomous mobility.The spherical shape of the tire is key to delivering ultimate maneuverability. The multi-orientation tires move in all directions, contributing to passenger safety. Active technology allows the tire to move as needed to reduce sliding from potential hazards, such as black ice or sudden obstacles, so it contributes to staying on a safe path. Goodyear Eagle-360 would use magnetic levitation (MagLev) to suspend the vehicle over the tires by magnetic field.

When for wheels can go in any direction, you need a computer to manage that. Now that our cars are about to drive themselves, it’s high time to see what’s possible.


Dubai debuts world’s first fully 3D-printed building

The first fully 3D-printed and completely functional building has celebrated its grand opening this week in Dubai. It is named the “Office of the Future,”

The 3D-printed building has all the amenities of traditionally constructed structures, such as electricity, water, telecommunications, and air conditioning. The office is also outfitted with a number of energy saving features, including window shades to protect from Dubai’s blazing sun. In order to create all the pieces needed for the office, builders used a 3D printer measuring 20 feet high, 120 feet long, and 40 feet wide. Aside from the equipment, it took a very small team of workers to put the office together. Seven installers and 10 electricians and specialists worked together to assemble the fully functional office in just 17 days. Dubai’s media office estimates this represents a 50 percent cost savings in labor alone compared to buildings of similar size built with conventional methods. 

From nano-sized structures to whole buildings: 3D printing definitely made its way to be used productively.

German Architect Andre Broessel believes he has a solution that can “squeeze more juice out of the sun”, even during the night hours and in low-light regions. His company Rawlemon has created a spherical sun power generator prototype called the beta.ray. His technology will combine spherical geometry principles with a dual axis tracking system, allowing twice the yield of a conventional solar panel in a much smaller surface area. The futuristic design is fully rotational and is suitable for inclined surfaces, walls of buildings, and anywhere with access to the sky. It can even be used as an electric car charging station.

The beta.ray comes with a hybrid collector to convert daily electricity and thermal energy at the same time. While reducing the silicon cell area to 25% with the equivalent power output by using our ultra transmission Ball Lens point focusing concentrator, it operates at efficiency levels of nearly 57% in hybrid mode. At nighttime the Ball Lens can transform into a high-power lamp to illuminate your location, simply by using a few LED’s. The station is designed for off grid conditions as well as to supplement buildings’ consumption of electricity and thermal circuits like hot water.
